From Nicole Williams:
Woodland police detectives are searching for a man suspected of shooting 17-year-old youth who died from his wounds early Sunday morning.
The suspect was identified as Marcelino Moises Michel Jr., 28, according to a Woodland Police Department news release.
Michel was last seen around 12:30 a.m. leaving the Crossroads Village Apartments on Matmor Road, the release said, adding that the suspect may be driving a blue Cadillac sedan.
Police responded to a call at 12:36 a.m. Sunday and found the 17-year-old victim lying in the parking lot of the complex, bleeding severely from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his head.
Detectives believe the homicide is related to an argument that occurred inside a nearby apartment just minutes before the shooting, the release stated.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to the University of California Davis Medical Center, where he died from his wounds just after 3 a.m.
Detectives and crime scene technicians processed the scene for evidence and conducted several interviews, which resulted in the arrest of Woodland resident Robert Anthony Tayborne, 23, for obstructing and delaying officers after he repeatedly interrupted the questioning of one witness, encouraging her not to talk with police, the release stated.
Tayborne was also placed on a parole hold and booked at the Monroe Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
Michel is currently on parole from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and should be considered armed and extremely dangerous, the release stated. Michel was described by police as being a 5-feet-7-inches tall, 175 pound Hispanic male with brown eyes, black hair and possibly a goatee.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Woodland Police Department at (530) 661-7800. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Marcelino Michel Jr is asked to contact their local police department.
