From Bill Lindelof:
A funeral service for the veteran Sacramento County sheriff's deputy killed in a traffic collision last week is scheduled for Thursday, and the public is welcome to attend.
Sgt. Kelley Lynne Allen Lara (left), 43, died in a crash on Interstate 80 last Thursday. The woman authorities say caused the wreck, then fled the scene, faces felony charges.
The funeral for Lara, a 15-year department veteran, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, 11427 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks. The public also is invited to a viewing from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs' Association, Sgt. Kelley Lara Memorial Account, c/o Exchange Bank, 1420 Rocky Ridge Drive, Suite 190 Roseville, 95661; or the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff's Association, 1700 I St., Suite 100, Sacramento, 95811.
Stacy Lynn Taylor, 22, is suspected of causing the deputy's death. She was arrested on suspicion of felony manslaughter and felony hit and run.
Lara was westbound on Interstate 80 in her personal vehicle, a black Toyota MR2, when the collision happened about 1 p.m., CHP and sheriff's officials said.
Witnesses told authorities that a vehicle made an unsafe lane change into the Toyota's path near the Longview Drive overcrossing, officials said.
While evading the vehicle, Lara lost control of her car, which spun clockwise and struck the left rear of a big rig that was merging onto the highway from the right shoulder into the slow lane.
