From Julie Johnson:
Sacramento County Sheriff deputies are searching for a man (left) who sexually assaulted a woman Wednesday night in Antelope.
A 23-year-old woman reported that when she was walking down the street an unknown man grabbed her from behind and sexually groped her, according to a news release. She said she screamed and was able to get away. The attacker then fled.
Detectives are investigating a possible link to a similar assault. A 13-year-old girl reported she had been sexually groped July 27 at Antelope Crossing Middle School, according to the report.
Anyone with information about the suspect can contact the Sheriff's Sexual and Elder Abuse Bureau at (916) 874-5070, or (916) 874-5115. Callers may also contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP; or send a text message tip by texting to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter SACTIP followed by the tip information.
Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00.
Sheriff's officials also offered safety tips to reduce the risk of being attacked while walking or jogging outdoors:
**Always be alert to your surroundings and the people around you.
**Don't walk or jog alone, especially at night, and always avoid areas were there are few people.
**Try to stay in well-lit areas.
**Walk or jog confidently at a steady pace on the side of the street facing traffic.
**Avoid bushes and alleys.
**Wear clothes and shoes that give you freedom of movement.
**Be careful when people stop you to ask for directions. Always reply from a distance.
**If you are in trouble, attract attention any way you can. Scream or yell for help.
*If you feel you are being followed, walk or run to a well-populated area.
