From Bill Lindelof:
Sheriff's deputies are searching for three men who held up residents in an Arden Arcade apartment and then shot a man in the apartment complex parking lot as they made a getaway.
"We don't believe they were targeting drugs or drug money," said sheriff's department spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran. "They were just random victims."
When deputies were called to the apartment on the 2500 block of Edison Avenue at 5:30 a.m. they found a 39-year-old man in the parking lot who had been shot in his upper body. His wound was not considered life-threatening, Curran said.
While investigating that shooting, deputies were told there had been a home-invasion robbery at the complex. In that robbery, three women and a small child were inside an upstairs apartment when three men forced their way inside and ordered the residents into a bathroom.
The armed suspects threatened the apartment residents and took some of the women's personal property, Curran said.
"We believe that these suspects then committed the shooting in the parking lot," said Curran. "(The victim) was being robbed as well. For whatever reason, he was shot."
