A drive-by shooting suspect who has been holed up on Emerson Drive for almost two hours has surrendered to Sacramento police.
Just before he gave up, police had announced their intent to use police dogs if the suspect didn't come out of the garage of the home on the 5200 block of Emerson Drive. The suspect's name was not immediately available.
Police set up a perimeter around Emerson Drive about 1 p.m., after gang detectives witnessed a drive-by shooting near 17th Avenue and 73rd Street, said police Sgt. Norm Leong. They attempted to pull over the car, but the driver did not yield, Leong said.
After a short pursuit, the vehicle - a silver Nissan Altima - crashed. One occupant fled, and police arrested the other, Leong said.
Officers tracked the outstanding suspect to a home in the 5200 block of Emerson Drive and surrounded the area. Several homes on the street were evacuated and nearby Earl Warren Elementary School was locked down, Leong said.

One school - Earl Warren Elementary - was locked down as officers continued their search.
Gang detectives were near 17th Avenue and 73rd Street about 12:45 p.m. when they witnessed a drive-by shooting, said police Sgt. Norm Leong. No one was hit in the shooting, Leong said.
