A part-time coach at Mesa Verde High School in Citrus Heights has been arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs for sale.
Citrus Heights police arrested Nathanael Matthew Milburn (left), 36, Wednesday after serving a search warrant at his Citrus Heights residence.
Lt. Ray Bechler said police found large quantities of separately packaged Vicodin and more than six ounces of marijuana in ready-for-sale packages.
Trent Allen, a spokesman for the San Juan Unified School District, confirmed that Milburn coached girl's basketball at Mesa Verde High and had previously coached the freshman boy's football team.
Allen said the district had been advised of Milburn's arrest and that he is no longer employed at the school. Milburn was not a faculty member.
Because Milburn had considerable contact with students, Bechler said police are looking into whether he was selling prescription drugs or marijuana to students.
He said police detectives received tips regarding the possible drug activity about a week and a half ago. In addition to the drugs, officers seized Milburn's cell phone and are seeking to identify other people who may have been involved, Bechler said.
Milburn was booked into Sacramento County Jail on Wednesday. The jail's website indicated he was released today.
