Three people pleaded no contest today in the failed effort to break three inmates out of the downtown Sacramento jail last year.
Adam Ramsey, Jackie Phoulivanh and Rosetta Ivory Rogers entered their pleas today in Sacramento Superior Court and are scheduled to be sentenced next month by Judge Kevin J. McCormick.
Two other suspects accused in the escape attempt began their preliminary hearings today. One of them is Andre Pulido, 27, convicted last year of murder in the Oak Park shooting death of UC Berkeley student Rodrigo Rodriguez Jr. The other is Alex Brown, 33, who was awaiting trial in the 2006 shooting death of James Ramirez in South Land Park. Brown's murder trial is scheduled for next month.
Ramsey was jailed and awaiting trial on assault with a deadly weapon charges at the time of the Aug. 16, 2009, breakout attempt. He had since been convicted in that case and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He faces another 13 years as a result of his plea today.
Phoulivanh and Rogers are both facing terms of three years and four months.
Sheriff's officials said the two women tried to shoot out a window on an upper-level cell at the jail at 6th and I streets. Inside the jail, sources said the inmates had accumulated extra bedding and had hoped to fashion a rope made out of sheets and blankets to shimmy down the side of the building to the ground below.
