A Yolo County jury today convicted a West Sacramento man of double kidnapping for rape.
Theodore Wooten, 21, was found guilty of sexual assault, kidnapping and other violent felony charges for attacks on two women in May.
Wooten forced his way into a West Sacramento motel May 1 and tried to rape a woman who is mentally ill, and often homeless and living on the streets, according to a Yolo County District Attorney's Office news release. When she resisted the attack, Wooten savagely beat her, officials said.
Wooten escaped, and on May 27, he attacked another woman. In this instance, he forced the victim off the street and behind a business in the early morning hours, officials said. A concerned citizen called 911, and West Sacramento police officers caught Wooten in the act of sexually assaulting the woman.
Yolo County Superior Court Judge Stephen L. Mock is scheduled to sentence Wooten on Jan. 14.
