Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced that William Keller, a 73-year-old convicted murderer, has been denied parole for five years.
In 1984, Keller of West Sacramento killed Joseph Hosner, firing a shotgun at Hosner's head at close range.
A Yolo County jury convicted Keller of murder and the use of firearm in commission of that murder. He was sentenced to 17 years to life in prison.
Keller was denied parole on three previous occasions, according to a District Attorney's Office news release.
During the parole hearing at High Desert State Prison, the Parole Board considered a letter from a family member of the victim and arguments from the Yolo County District Attorney's Office urging the board to deny parole.
The board found that Keller was not suitable for parole because he presented "an unreasonable risk and threat to public safety." The board also noted the heinousness of the offense and lack of a suitable release plan for Keller, according to the news release.
Keller will be eligible for another parole hearing in 2015.
