A man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence in the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist in the Arden-Arcade area Saturday night has a record of DUI and reckless driving offenses.
According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, Corey Demetricus Hazewood, 33, pleaded no contest to in October 2001 to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or more. He also pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving in February 2006.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Vanessa Gail Hall-Macon, 55, was riding a bike westbound about 9:45 p.m. Saturday when a car drove onto the sidewalk along Hurley Way west of Bell Street and hit her. She later died of her injuries at UC Davis Medical Center.
A CHP spokeswoman said that the motorist left the scene after Hall-Macon was struck and was found a short time later. Officers arrested Hazewood on suspicion of manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence and hit and run. He is being held in Sacramento County Jail on $375.000 bail.
