Davis police are investigating two cases in which pedestrians were attacked and robbed early Sunday in the central Davis area.
Neither incident involved weapons, but the victims of each attack suffered minor injuries, according to a Police Department news release.
The first incident occurred at 1:50 a.m. Three 21-year-old male UC Davis students were walking in the area of Third and F streets when they were attacked from behind. Police said the victims described their attackers as six to eight black men. The assailants stole one of the victim's cell phones and another victim's cell phone was damaged in the scuffle. The suspects fled northbound on F Street in two vehicles described as a white sedan and a tan SUV.
Minutes later, about 2 a.m., two men in their mid-20s were approached in the area of Russell Boulevard and College Park by eight to 10 individuals who attacked the two victims and forced them to the ground. Police said the assailants took a wallet from one of the victims. The other victim struggled and managed to retain his property.
The suspects in this case were described as Latino men and one black adult, all in their mid-20s. They left the scene in a white European-style sedan.
Police said they believe the two robberies may be related because of their close proximity, the time frame and the method of attack.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the Davis Police Investigations Division at (530) 747-5400.
