A dog reported stolen from a vehicle in Citrus Heights last week has been recovered and reunited with its owners.
Apollo, a 3-year-old chocolate lab mix, was reported stolen about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 from a vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart store at 7010 Auburn Blvd. Officers initially determined that a woman entered the victim's vehicle and took the dog. With assistance from Walmart's loss prevention employees, officers located evidence that identified the woman, according to a Police Department news release.
Today, officers tracked down an address associated with the suspect in Carmichael. Investigators checked the home and found Apollo in good health, officials said. The dog was taken to the Citrus Heights Police Department, where he was reunited with his owners.
Police said the suspect was questioned regarding the theft of the dog, and the case was forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for an arrest warrant. Detectives will follow up further on information they received and present the results of their investigation to the DA's Office.
