Elk Grove police say they have arrested a woman suspected of being the "red glove" robber.
Police on Wednesday put out a for the public's help in finding the woman who held up a sandwich shop and attempted to hold up a supermarket over the weekend in Elk Grove while wearing red gloves. She was seen leaving the scene of both crimes in a dark silver or gray Volkswagen. (At left is surveillance photo that police released on Wednesday.)
Patrol officers Wednesday afternoon saw Michele Lee Cooper, 34, driving a 2004 silver Volkswagen Jetta at Bungalow Way and Ancestor Drive Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The Jetta's rear license plate had been altered, police said.
Officers reported that they suspected she might be the woman wanted in the two crimes.
Detectives questioned Cooper and determined she was a suspect, police said.
Cooper was booked into Sacramento County Jail at 8 p.m. on suspicion of robbery. Her bail was set at $50,000.
The robbery occurred at the Subway restaurant at 5030 Laguna Boulevard, and the attempted robbery at the Safeway store at 5021 Laguna Blvd., police said.
