Folsom police announced that they have identified a suspect in a November shooting and seek the public's help in finding him.
Investigators seek 18-year-old Anthony Hernandez of Elk Grove (left), who is suspected of shooting a 21-year-old Placerville man when the two met in Folsom to conduct a drug deal.
On Nov. 27, police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle that led to an attempted murder investigation. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The vehicle was found in the middle of the road, with the engine running and blood in the trunk, according to a Police Department news release.
The investigation led officers to an area hospital, where the victim was being treated for a gunshot wound. He told officers that he was shot with a revolver by a man named "Tony" from Elk Grove. The victim described the man as Latino, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing 165 pounds. He said the man was wearing a red and black jacket at the time of the shooting.
Police have identified the suspect as Hernandez, saying he is wanted on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office on Monday issued a warrant for his arrest.
Although Hernandez was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, police said he would be charged as an adult.
Hernandez was not alone the night of the shooting, and police seek the public's help identifying that individual who was with him.
Anyone with information regarding Hernandez whereabouts, or the identity of the person with him the night of the shooting is asked to call the Folsom Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at (916) 930-1098.
