Citrus Heights police say a boy arrested following a brief standoff at a fast-food restaurant this morning is a suspect in at least three residential burglaries.
At 10:30 a.m. today, police received a report of a suspicious person walking through the neighborhood in the 7900 block of Summerplace Drive. When they arrived, officers were told that the youth had entered the back yard of a residence. As police searched the area, the youth was seen jumping over fences and running toward the Antelope Crossing Shopping Center, according to a Police Department news release.
Officers searched the shopping center and saw the boy enter a fast-food restaurant, where he locked himself in the restroom. Officers surrounded the restaurant and negotiated with the suspect for about five minutes before he surrendered and was taken into custody.
Upon fingerprinting him, police were notified by the Department of Justice that the fingerprints matched latent prints obtained from two other residential burglaries in the same neighborhood.
The youth was taken to the Youth Detention Facility. Police said detectives are reviewing other similar types of burglaries to determine whether the youth was responsible for them.
Anyone with additional information about today's incident is asked to call the Police Department at (916) 727-5500.
