The Placer County Sheriff's Department has announced a reward for information leading to the arrest of an armed man who robbed an Auburn-area gas station early Tuesday and also bound the hands of a newspaper delivery woman who interrupted the robbery.
Sheriff's officials said a surveillance photo (left) of the suspect obtained today shows a white man, 18 to 25 years old, as he exits the Chevron station at 13381 Lincoln Way.
He was wearing a striped beanie over shoulder-length hair, and was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He was wearing a red T-shirt and black camouflage jacket.
The robbery occurred at 2:22 a.m. Tuesday when the suspect approached a male clerk inside the store and pulled out a silver semiautomatic handgun, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.
He pointed the weapon at the clerk, forced him to the front counter and told him to empty the cash register.
As the clerk complied with the suspect's demands, a woman delivering newspapers walked into the store. The suspect walked up to the woman, forced her behind the counter and taped her hands together, the release states.
The man grabbed money and headed north on Lincoln Way in a dark-colored pickup truck, which had been parked at the gas pumps. The truck was described as having a chrome grill and chrome lining over the wheel wells.
Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call Detective Mike Simmons at (530) 889-7894.
To remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000, people may call Placer County Crime Stoppers at (800) 923-8191.
