Prosecutors dropped the case today against a former Sacramento police officer who had been charged with brandishing a weapon during a domestic dispute with his live-in girlfriend, court officials said.
Bryan David Weinrich had been scheduled for trial last month, but the case was bumped over and he was slated for a hearing today in Sacramento Superior Court.
Neither the prosecution nor defense attorneys were immediately available to discuss the decision.
Court officials said the District Attorney's Office requested that the misdemeanor case be dismissed in the interests of justice.
Weinrich resigned from the Sacramento Police Department sometime after his arrest, a police spokesman said today. He declined to give any further details.
Weinrich had initially been booked on suspicion of four felonies after his Nov. 20, 2009, arrest in Galt. Sacramento prosecutors said they did not file two of those possible counts - kidnapping and false imprisonment - because the alleged offenses took place in Placer County.
Authorities in Placer County said they never received a referral on the case from Sacramento.
Deputy District Attorney Paul Durenberger declined to say at the time Weinrich was charged with misdemeanor brandishing last year why no felony domestic violence count was added in the case.
The alleged victim in the case is a Sacramento police officer.
