Two residences and a vehicle in Rancho Cordova neighborhood were struck by bullets Tuesday afternoon during an attempted marijuana sale, according to a crime summary released today.
The summary released by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, which provides police services for Rancho Cordova under a contract, gave this sequence of events:
Three young men in a vehicle approached three young men who were on bicycles shortly before 1:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Klamath River Drive.
The men in the vehicle tried to sell marijuana to the bicycle riders. When the bicyclists refused to buy the marijuana, a passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle brandished a knife, and the victims, feeling threatened, rode away.
However, the men in the vehicle followed the bicyclists, and the front passenger fired a semiautomatic handgun at the bicyclists, who dived for cover to avoid being stuck by the bullets.
The suspect vehicle and the victims left the scene before officers arrived, but the victims were later located.
Officials reported that no one was injured, but two homes and a vehicle were struck by bullets.
No description was provided of the suspects or their vehicle.
