A Sacramento woman has been sentenced to prison for wire fraud and mail theft.
Traci Marie Linzmeier, 37, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Frank C. Damrell Jr. to 15 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for multiple counts of wire fraud and theft of U.S. mail. She also was ordered to pay restitution and a special assessment of $400, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.
According to court documents, Linzmeier, acting with others, followed U.S. Postal Service vehicles during neighborhood mail delivery activities in Sacramento County. On several occasions in 2010, Linzmeier, acting as the getaway driver, and her associates broke into the parked Postal Service vehicles and stole trays of mail while postal carriers were conducting route deliveries.
Officials said Linzmeier admitted that she collected and sorted the stolen mail, and used the stolen financial information to buy merchandise online.
The case is the product of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Rancho Cordova Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
