Animal control officers in Rancho Cordova confiscated dozens of rabbits earlier this week from a recently condemned home, according to the Sacramento SPCA.
The bunnies now are available for adoption at the SPCA at 6201 Florin Perkins Road in Sacramento. The adoption fee is $45. It includes spay or neuter surgery.
Rabbit rescuer Anne Martin of Volunteer Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary in the Bay Area, which is helping to find homes for the bunnies, said that the "rabbit mill" in Rancho Cordova was operating through craigslist. Craigslist prohibits selling animals through its Website, but relies on community input to patrol the practice, she said.
Fifty rabbits, both adults and babies, were taken from the Sacramento area home, she said.
