Citrus Heights police say they have arrested an intruder who was shot by a homeowner early this morning.
Police said the man broke into a home in the 5800 block of Northgrove Way about 1:45 a.m. The homeowner, who was startled by the sound of glass breaking, grabbed a handgun.
The homeowner spotted the intruder leaving a bathroom and confronted him, asking what he was doing in his house, police said.
Police said the homeowner feared for his life when the intruder made a movement toward him.
The homeowner fired one shot, striking the intruder in the wrist. The suspect fled out the front door of the house.
Officers later found the man they suspect was the intruder nearby in the 7000 block of Peachtree Avenue.
The suspect, Aaron Freres, 29, was been treated for his injury at Mercy San Juan Hospital and released to police. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Police said that Freres knows a female rooommate who lived in the bedroom where the sounds came from during the break-in. She was not at the home at the time of the shooting.
