Three young men were gunned down and killed Sunday afternoon on a Rancho Cordova sidewalk in what police described as a drive-by shooting.
All three victims appear to be in their late teens, said Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos. Their identities had not been released as of Sunday night.
The shooting happened at about 4:30 p.m. in the 10100 block of Malaga Way, a residential area of apartments, condominiums and duplexes. Two of the young men died at the scene, and a third at Mercy San Juan hospital.
Ramos said investigators have no information on the motive or suspects in the slaying.
He said area residents reported hearing gunshots, went outside and found the three victims near the front yard and sidewalk of a condominium.
Hours later, dozens of people gathered at the scene to share information and concerns.
"It's horrifying," said one woman, who declined to be identified for fear of retaliation by the shooters. "Our neighborhood is just not like this. It's very quiet, and we're all very tight."
She did not know the shooting victims, who may be new to the area, she said.
"None of us knows what happened. But all you can do is be strong for your neighbors and pray that nothing else happens."
