As dozens of students stood vigil this afternoon at the site where three young men were gunned down Sunday, sheriff's officials said they still did not know who the victims were or who was responsible.
Students from Mather Youth Academy and Cordova High School congregated outside the Raley's Supermarket at 8391 Folsom Blvd. and then marched to the 10100 block of Malaga Way, where two of the young men had died. The third died after being taken to Mercy San Juan Hospital.
All three victims appear to be in their late teens, Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos said Sunday night.
The drive-by shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. on the sidewalk of a residential area of apartments, condominiums and duplexes.
Ramos said investigators have no information on the motive or suspects in the slaying.
He said area residents reported hearing gunshots, went outside and found the three victims near the front yard and sidewalk of a condominium.
"It's horrifying," said one woman, who declined to be identified for fear of retaliation by the shooters. "Our neighborhood is just not like this. It's very quiet, and we're all very tight."
She continued: "None of us knows what happened. But all you can do is be strong for your neighbors and pray that nothing else happens."
At least one of the young men was a student at Mather Youth Academy in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District, acquaintances said Sunday night.
