Alert neighbors are credited for a quick police response and arrest of two suspects in several home burglaries Wednesday afternoon in Roseville.

The search began about 1:45 p.m. when a resident of the 1300 block of Greenborough Drive reported that a young man knocked on his door and asked for a person who had never lived at the house.

The resident saw a silver compact sedan pull up, and the man got a backpack from the driver and started walking around the neighborhood, the release states.

Suspicious, the resident called police.

Roseville officers responded within minutes and detained a man identified as Andrew Lee Padilla (top left), 22, of Roseville.

Padilla was holding items stolen from a porch on Shetland Court and several hypodermic needles, police said.

About 20 minutes later, a resident a half mile away on Miners Way reported that her house had just been burglarized.

When the first officer arrived, a neighbor flagged him down and pointed out a man walking away from the area. As the officer approached, the man went into a backyard and disappeared from view.

Dozens of officers swarmed the neighborhood searching for the man, while Citrus Heights police watched for him at the entrances to their city.

Officers eventually identified and found the second suspect, Cory James Gentry (top right), 22, of Roseville at a relative's house. Officers said they recovered jewelry and other small items taken from the home on Miners Way.

Gentry and Padilla are suspected of acting together, police said.

An earlier report from police indicated a third man was arresed as part of the investigation. Police later said the man was arrested on a Placer County bench warrant for failing to appear on a stolen property charge and not in connection with the burglary investigation.

Padilla was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, and possession of hypodermic needles and illegally obtained prescription drugs. He is being held in Placer County Jail on $20,000 bail.

Gentry was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and possession of stolen property. He is being held in Placer County Jail on $35,000 bail.

Sacto 9-1-1 Q&A

Q: What happened with the case regarding Marc McCormick? He was accused of videotaping a woman in her home and was arrested. He lives in my neighborhood and I see him all the time. Were charges dropped?

A: According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, misdemeanor charges have been filed against Mark William McCormick, alleging that he used a camcorder or other instrument to view an individual in a place where there was an expectation of privacy, trespassing and peeping.

His next court date is June 4.

According to Sacramento police logs, McCormick, 40, was arrested March 8 after the victim reported that a friend had entered her home without her knowledge to secretly videotape her.
