An Auburn man has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading no contest to a single count of possessing counterfeiting apparatus.
Jerod Williams, 24, was arrested March 11 on suspicion of cashing and attempting to cash fraudulent checks at the Cash Club in Auburn. Police said they had received reports that Williams was impersonating a Wave Broadband employee to obtain goods and services.
Williams entered the plea in Placer County Superior Court on Friday.
In addition to the jail time, Judge Colleen Nichols sentenced Williams to three years probation, fined him $270 and ordered him to pay $1,223 in restitution. He also must forfeit his computer and associated equipment, and may use a computer only for school or work.
Five other charges were dismissed under a legal provision that allows those charges to be considered in the sentencing or any future sentencing, according to a Placer County District Attorney's Office spokesman. Those charges consisted of two counts of second-degree commercial burglary, two counts of check forgery and one count of forgery.
