Three people, including two children, were hospitalized Thursday after fire department crews observed high levels of carbon monoxide in their south Sacramento home, a Sacramento Fire Department spokesman said.
A carbon monoxide detector went off in the home on Pierre Avenue on Thursday afternoon, leading the adult inhabitant to call the fire department, said department spokesman Capt. Jonathan Burgess.
Fire crews responded about 5 p.m., and tested the three inhabitants' blood with carbon monoxide monitors after the adult complained of nausea, Burgess said. All three showed carbon monoxide readings that were higher than normal, and they were transported to Kaiser South Sacramento Medical Center, he said.
PG&E crews later entered the home and determined that the carbon monoxide was not coming from appliances, Burgess said. They suspect the gas may have leaked into the home after a car was warmed up in the garage for an extended period of time Thursday morning, he said.
The carbon monoxide detector in the home was found to be in proper working condition.
