Two people were injured Wednesday night in a fight that involved a machete at a Carmichael apartment complex, a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.
The fight began shortly before 8:10 p.m., when a 47-year-old male resident of the complex in the 5300 block of Marconi Avenue tried to intervene in an argument between a 51-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos.
The man involved in the argument picked up a machete and attacked the 47-year-old man, who suffered a superficial neck wound, Ramos said.
The wounded man then turned the machete on his attacker and stabbed him in the chest.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the complex to find the 47-year-old man holding the 51-year-old man to the ground, Ramos said.
All three people involved were found to be under the influence of alcohol, Ramos said.
The man with the chest wound was transported to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, Ramos said. The woman, who began suffering from chest pains during the fight, was also transported.
The 47-year-old man refused medical attention, Ramos said.
Nobody was immediately taken into custody in the incident.
