A Sacramento man who shot his wife to death in front of police and another Sacramento man who killed his 15-year-old fiancée are due parole hearings.
Jesus Gomez Cazares, now 49, told probation officers that the gun he was holding discharged accidentally in the June 3, 1985 slaying of Louise M. Gomez, 37, The Bee reported.
A Sacramento police officer, who had just arrived on a call of a domestic dispute at the couple's Meadowview area home, did not have a chance to pull his weapon when the shooting occurred. The officer jumped on Cazares and disarmed him.
Gomez was talking to Cazares about a divorce before the shooting, police said.
Cazares pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 17 years to life.
Low Lin Saepharn, now 45, stabbed to death Mai Fong Saeyang on Jan. 31, 1985 after an argument over his treatment of her 14-month-old child.
Saepharn pleaded guilty to killing Saeyang and her 27-week-old fetus. He was sentenced to 16 years to life.
A prosecutor said Saepharn was offered a plea bargain in part because his Miranda rights were given improperly due to language difficulties.
Cazares hearing will be April 4 at the California Medical Facility, Vacaville, where he is incarcerated.
Saepharn's hearing will be April 4 at the California Men's Colony, San Luis Obispo, where he is incarcerated.
