Sacramento police have arrested a husband-and-wife team, who are accused of pimping young women, at least one of whom alleged she was raped, according to authorities.
This morning, police arrested 32-year-old Tamaia Okeema Faletogo on suspicion of four prostitution-related charges, including deriving support from proceeds of a person's prostitution and making threats causing a person to remain in a house of prostitution, according to jail booking records.
Police spokeswoman Officer Laura Peck said officers arrested Faletogo's husband, 36-year-old Dante Bowens, Jan. 30 on suspicion of false imprisonment, oral copulation, sodomy and rape.
Peck said the investigation into the couple began after a 22-year-old woman said she escaped from them and called police. She alleged she had been raped, Peck said.
Detectives suspect Bowens and Faletogo allegedly worked together to pimp prostitutes over the course of several days, Peck said.
Peck said it's "definitely different" to see a man and a woman accused of pairing up to run a prostitution ring - typically, offenders are male.
