Sacramento police have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a 19-year-old man last month in north Sacramento.
Alanzo Jackson Banks, 30, and Herbert Antonio Alvarez, 19, were arrested today in Rodeo in Contra Costa County, Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said.
Rashad Stephen Alexander was shot to death in the parking lot of a bar in the 3200 block of Northgate Boulevard in the early hours of March 12, police reported.
Officers responded to a call of shots in the area and found Alexander shot. Firefighters responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.
During the ensuing investigation, detectives found that another man had been brought to a local hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds, according to a Sacramento Police Department release.
Detectives determined the man had sustained his injuries at the scene of the Alexander' shooting, and later developed information leading to the identities of the two suspects, the release states.
Detectives believe the suspects confronted Alexander in the parking lot of the bar and that Alexander was shot in the confrontation, the release states. The confrontation is believed to have been gang-related.
Homicide detectives and the Career Criminal Apprehension Team, with assistance from the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department, arrested the two suspects Thursday without incident, the release states. Both are believed to be residents of Contra Costa County, Leong said.
Banks and Alvarez were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail shortly after 5 p.m., on suspicion of murder and are ineligible for bail, jail booking logs show.
