Law enforcement agencies throughout the Sacramento region encourage St. Patrick's Day revelers those who drink not to drive.
Agencies in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado and Yolo counties will deploy DUI task forces Thursday.
In Placer County, additional roving saturation patrols will be on duty in Roseville, keeping an eye out for people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In El Dorado County, St. Patrick's Day enforcement activities will include roving saturation patrols in the cities of Placerville and South Lake Tahoe.
In Yolo County, additional patrol officers will be roving the streets of Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento and Winters.
In addition to St. Patrick's Day enforcement activities, the Sacramento Police Department this week is partnering with the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control to combat underage drinking by focusing on those individuals who provide alcohol to minors.
Officers also will assist the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office in a countywide warrant sweep, targeting individuals who have failed to heed warnings not to drink and drive and now have DUI warrants for their arrest.
For a safe St. Patrick's Day, law enforcement officials recommend that celebrants:
Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin.
Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home.
If you're impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation.
If you see a drunken driver on the road, call 911.
If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements.
