The recent arrest of a Sacramento woman on suspicion of shoplifting marked at least her 15th arrest since 1988, 13 of which resulted in her pleading guilty or no contest to various charges, Sacramento sheriff's reports and court records show.
The latest arrest for Lajoy Duncan, 49, was 4 p.m. March 1 outside a store in the 9100 block of Kiefer Boulevard, according to a sheriff's crime summary released this week.
A search of Sacramento Superior Court records shows Duncan has a conviction record stretching back to 1988 when she pleaded guilty to burglary.
Since then, she has pleaded guilty or no contest to charges of drug possession or paraphernalia, soliciting for prostitution, grand theft, giving a false ID to a law enforcement officer, assault, petty theft with prior convictions and obstructing a law enforcement officer or a emergency medical technician, court records show.
The crime summary gives this account of Duncan's latest arrest:
A loss-prevention employee said told sheriff's deputies that he saw Duncan allegedly take items from the store, place them in her bra and leave the store without paying.
He confronted Duncan outside the store and attempted to escort her back to the store.
He told deputies that the 5-foot-7, 315-pound Duncan hit him with her fist and scratched him.
Deputies said Duncan attempted to run from them but was apprehended.
Duncan was still in the Sacramento jail as of this morning on suspicion of robbery and petty theft with prior convictions, records show. She is being held without bail.
