A carjacking and chase in south Sacramento this afternoon left one man shot and hospitalized, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman said.
The incident began at about 2 p.m. Wednesday at an AutoZone in the 6100 block of Mack Road, police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said.
A man drove up to the AutoZone in his teal Cadillac with 22-inch rims, got out of the vehicle and left it running because it has a bad battery, Leong said. He then saw the car being driven away by a black male adult in his 20s with short twisted hair, Leong said.
The carjacking victim attempted to stop the vehicle and was dragged. Then, as the suspect drove the car away, the victim jumped into a nearby black Hyundai. That car's driver offered to help the victim chase his car, Leong said.
During the chase, the carjacking suspect shot at the pursuing car and hit the driver, Leong said.
The driver, a male Hispanic in his 20s, was driven to the hospital and is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries, Leong said.
The carjacking victim also sustained scrapes and bruises from being dragged.
