Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 33-year-old man for investigation of kidnapping, assault with intent to commit rape and other charges in connection with a home invasion assault Saturday on an elderly victim in her south Sacramento home.
Renell Thorpe, who was on parole in another case, was being held today in lieu of more than $1 million bail after his arrest about 4:40 p.m. Saturday, Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos reported.
Authorities received a first call in the case shortly before 11 a.m. when the woman said a man had come into her home, restrained her and sexually assaulted her. She told police he then spent time in her home trying on some of her clothes before fleeing.
The woman went to a neighbor's home after the attack and authorities were called.
Deputies said while that case was being investigated, a resident in the 5300 block of Thurman Way called the department to report a man, giving a description that appeared to match that of the suspect in the assault case.
Deputies descended upon the area and set up a security perimeter, Ramos said.
Over the next hour, he said, Thorpe eluded deputies by jumping fences, running through backyards and breaking into two residences.
At 4:42 p.m., a K-9 unit tracked the suspect to a home in the 5700 block of Nina Way, where he was taken into custody.
The assault victim subsequently identified him as her assailant, Ramos said.
