Woodland police make arrest in assault case

By Cathy Locke

Woodland police have arrested a man in connection with a Feb. 19 assault outside a local pharmacy.

Surinder Singh, 34, of Woodland was arrested today on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape, according to a police department news release.

Officers were dispatched at 2:47 p.m. Feb. 19 to the CVS Pharmacy at 7 W. Main St. for a report of an attempted kidnapping.

The victim, a 26-year-old Woodland woman, told police that she was standing in front of the pharmacy when she was approached by a man who briefly engaged her in conversation, then grabbed her arm and tried to pull her to his car, which was parked nearby.

When an unidentified man approached and asked the suspect what he was doing, the suspect let go of the victim. She went inside and called 911, and the suspect left in his vehicle.

Police said Singh was arrested without incident in the 600 block of Acacia Way. He was booked into the Monroe Detention Center, where he is being held on $100,000 bail.
