Sacramento firefighters responding to a house fire in south Sacramento on Monday night discovered a marijuana grow in the house, a Sacramento Fire Department spokesman said.
Fire crews found "a couple hundred plants at least" in the bedrooms and a bathroom of the two-story house in the 6700 block of Cunningham Way, said fire department spokesman Capt. Jon Burgess.
Sacramento police are trying to determine whether or not the grow is legal, Burgess said.
Firefighters were called to the house at 8:39 p.m., and arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the second floor, Burgess said. Upon gaining entry into the home, firefighters located flames in a second-floor bedroom where there were also dozens of marijuana plants, he said.
Crews extinguished the main blaze and went back into the house several times afterward to put out smoldering fires in the attic, Burgess said.
Several firefighters sustained minor shocks from electrical wires that were hanging in rooms on the second floor, he said. They were treated at the scene.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
