The search for a missing 2-year-old Humboldt County girl came to a sad end Saturday, when authorities found the toddler's body in the Trinity River.
The girl's mother, 30-year-old Claudia Pedreros, will be charged with murder, according to the Trinity County Sheriff's Department.
The search for Sophia Parker Pedreros intensified Friday after Claudia Pedreros was found walking naked on Highway 3 in the Trinity Lake area that morning. She told authorities she did not know where her daughter was.
Sheriff's officials said tests indicated Pedreros was not under the influence of drugs, but that she might suffer from mental health issues.
Claudia Pedreros and her daughter had left home about 12:30 a.m. Friday. Their 2008 silver Kia Sedan later was located at the Trinity River Campground off Highway 3, but the girl was not there.
The sheriff's search and rescue team found the girl in the river Saturday afternoon, north of Coffee Creek, the Sheriff's Department said.
Assisting in the search were the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, Tehama County Search and Rescue, Coffee Creek and Trinity Center Volunteer Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service.
