A neighborhood battle with bats and sticks sent a Redding man to the hospital today, police reported.
Redding officers responded to the 3700 block of Churn Creek Road at 12:43 a.m. after receiving reports of numerous people fighting.
Upon arrival, they heard additional reports of shots fired, but those were later found to be inaccurate.
However, police found Robert Hunter, 47, unconscious in the street.
Hunter had a visible head injury and a broken stick was found next to him.
He was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers were told that Hunter had been wielding a metal pipe when he confronted across-the-street neighbors in a dispute.
After a physical altercation, an unnamed suspect hit him over the head with the stick and fled.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, about 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds, last seen in black shorts and a white shirt.
Two other people were arrested - one on suspicion of public intoxication, the other for possession of an illegal weapon.
A locking knife was found on one suspect and a metal bat was on the ground nearby.
The fight was not believed to be gang related.
