Bill Bowen, chief of police for the City of Rio Vista, has been named police chief for the City of Galt effective May 23, the city announced today.
Bowen replaces former Chief Loren Cattolico, who recently retired after four years heading the Galt Police Department.
Bowen has been with the city of Rio Vista for the last six years; before that he worked 26 years for the Reno Police Department in a variety of posts, Galt officials said.
He holds a Masters of Arts Degree in Behavioral Science from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and holds management and executive certificates from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
During Bowen's tenure in Rio Vista and Reno, he was involved in implementing a gang awareness program for the community, he worked on growth planning for communities and developed and monitored community-oriented training programs focused on diversity, problem solving and community partnerships, among other initiatives.
City Manager Jason Behrmann expressed pleasure with the appointment.
"Chief Bowen brings years of experience and dedication to the law enforcement profession with both large and small agencies ... and brings a high level of professionalism, innovative ideas, and hard work to the job."
Bowen will be paid $120,900 and receive a 5 percent education incentive.
