A man who allegedly burglarized the home of a 54-year-old Davis resident Wednesday morning also ended up dragging the victim's dog alongside his vehicle as he fled, a Davis Police Department spokesman said.
The victim told police he had taken his dog for a walk and was returning to his home in the 800 block of J Street at about 8:30 a.m., when he noticed an unknown man loading items from the residence into a vehicle that was backed into the driveway, said Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov.
When the suspect saw the victim approaching, he jumped into the driver's seat of the vehicle, Doroshov said. The victim ran to the vehicle and tried to prevent the suspect from leaving, but jumped out of the way when he realized the suspect was about to accelerate, Doroshov said.
As the suspect drove away, the leash of the victim's dog somehow became attached to the car, causing the dog to be dragged partway down the street before detaching, Doroshov said. The dog was not severely hurt, but was taken to a veterinarian for treatment, he said.
A computer and flat-screen TV were reported stolen, he said.
The suspect is still outstanding. He was described as a Hispanic male adult about 30 years old, 5-foot-7 and weighing about 170 pounds, with short black hair and wearing a dark-colored T-shirt, shorts and light-colored shoes. His vehicle was described as a dark-colored SUV.
