The driver of a Yuba Sutter trash hauling truck died Tuesday afternoon in a collision with a truck hauling two tractors.
The Marysville Police Department at 3:20 p.m. began receiving calls of a head-on collision involving two semi-trucks in the area of Highway 20 between East 22nd and East 17th streets. Officers located a Yuba Sutter trash collection truck that had been involved in a collision with the tractor truck and trailers.
The driver of the disposal truck, identified as Gary Wayne Mathis, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police department news release. The driver of the tractor and trailers was identified as Ernest Allan Coublucq, 73, of Marysville. He was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the cause of the collision is under investigation, but preliminary data indicates that the disposal truck was traveling north on Highway north on Highway 20 and the truck tractor and trailers was heading sough. Witnesses indicated that the truck tractor and trailers spun out of control and collided with the disposal truck. Police said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be a factor in the collision.
Highway 20 was closed for more than five hours.
