A drug deal gone bad Monday led to the shooting of a man in a McDonald's parking lot in Citrus Heights, police said.
Citrus Heights police received a call of shots fired outside the McDonald's at Sunrise Boulevard and Old Auburn Road at about 6:10 p.m., said Officer Bryan Fritsch. Responding officers found a male victim shot in the shoulder in the parking lot, he said.
The man was transported to a local hospital and was in stable condition late Monday night, police reported.
An investigation revealed that two men who were involved in a drug deal inside the bathroom of the McDonald's got into a physical fight that spilled out into the parking lot, according to a Citrus Heights Police Department news release. One of the men then shot the other, police reported.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect fleeing the area in a white four-door sedan, possibly a Buick or Chevrolet Lumina, police reported. The suspect is described as a male in his early 20s, about 5-foot-5 and 140 pounds, wearing an oversized white T-shirt and dark-colored shorts.
Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect's identity is asked to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department's tip line at (916) 727-5524.
