Bee Metro Staff

It was a busy weekend for Sacramento's downtown police officers. Starting Saturday afternoon and moving into the wee hours Sunday, the officers of Central Command responded to the following incidents. These items are taken from the police blotter.

1:30 p.m., 13th and J streets: Man out of prison for two hours found with crack cocaine

Officers stopped a man for aggressive panhandling. He was acting nervous and wearing prison release clothing. Michael Milligan, 48, kept trying to leave as officers spoke to him. Officers determined that Milligan had just been released from prison two hours earlier. A parole search was conducted and officers located crack cocaine and a narcotic smoking pipe on him.

10:16 p.m., 1900 block of Seventh Street: Intoxicated man stabs himself with butter knife

Officers checked out a report of a man who was intoxicated, off his meds and stabbed himself. Officers located the man on the north side of a park with a butter knife sticking out of his abdomen. They took him to the hospital.

11:57 p.m., 1600 block of J Street: Valet held up

Officers responded to an attempted robbery of a valet employee by five suspects in a car. The suspects had surrounded the employee and began going through his pockets. The employee did not have any money or property. Another employee walked up, distracting the suspects and allowing the victim to run. The suspects chased the victim for a distance and then got back into their car before being stopped by officers. All the suspects were arrested.

12:18 a.m., 18th Avenue and 38th Street: Cops hear shots, nab man with gun

Officers were in the area when they heard shots fired a short distance away. When they rounded the corner, they saw a man walking away. Because the man made some furtive movements to his waist area, officers detained him and found a gun in his pocket. Markis Proctor, 21, was booked on numerous weapons counts.

2:54 a.m., 5000 block of Stockton Boulevard: Burglary suspect gets face time with police dog

Officers responded to an alarm call at a business and set up a perimeter around the business. A suspect tried to run from the back of the business but, when he saw officers, ran back inside. The suspect did not come outside when commanded so the K9 Bandit was sent in. The dog found the man in the attic. Suspect Richard Hernandez, 30, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and violation of parole.
