Redding police arrested a man they say yelled gay slurs, held a knife to a dog's neck and then repeatedly stabbed the animal's owner.
Andrew Scott Horne, 19, of Redding was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide for stabbing Bowen Thomas Parks, 27, of Redding. Parks was listed in critical condition with stab wounds to his head, left forearm, abdomen and thigh.
Police said Parks and his friends were eating pizza Monday night about 8:30 p.m. on a second-story apartment balcony on Bundy Court that borders a movie complex parking lot. Horne, according to police, was in the parking lot and began arguing with Parks.
Horne scaled a wall from the parking lot into the front yard of the apartment building as the argument, the nature of which police did not disclose, escalated. Police said Horne began yelling "homophobic slurs" and threatened to kill Parks.
Parks, police said, asked his wife to call police. Horne allegedly charged up the stairway to the apartment with a knife in his hands.
He then held the knife to the neck of Parks' dog. When Parks tried to get the knife from his dog's throat, police said he was attacked by Horne.
Horne then fled back to the movie multi-plex parking lot. Redding police eventually arrested Horne near the Mount Shasta Mall.
