Sacramento Police to operate DUI checkpoints

The Sacramento Police Department will operate sobriety checkpoints Friday and Saturday nights.

The checkpoints will be at Del Paso Road and Five Star Way on Friday and at 21st Street and Broadway on Saturday. They will begin at 8:30 p.m. and continue for several hours.

Officers will check drivers passing through the checkpoints to make sure they are licensed and unimpaired by alcohol and drugs.

The checkpoints are intended to raise public awareness about the dangers of driving while intoxicated and to deter those who are impaired or unlicensed from driving.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is funding the checkpoints.
