Three Sacramento residents have pleaded guilty to a federal indictment charging them with sex trafficking of a minor, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced Thursday that Deanijiniqe Cail, 23, Christian Demitris Dotson, 20, and Veraniquie Wallace, 40, pleaded guilty to the charges in federal court.
According to court documents, Dotson approached a 14-year-old acquaintance in June 2010 and asked her to be a prostitute. Court documents indicate Dotson took sexually explicit photographs of the girl, which Cail and Wallace posted online, advertising her for prostitution, according to the Department of Justice release.
On June 23, law enforcement officers discovered the advertisement and rescued the girl at a Sacramento motel, the release states.
Cail and Dotson are scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller on Aug. 25, the release states, while Wallace is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 1.
The maximum statutory penalty for sex trafficking of a minor is life in prison, a $250,000 fine and a lifetime term of supervised release, the release states. However, the actual sentences in this case will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The case is the product of an investigation by the Sacramento Police Department and FBI, working together as part of the FBI's Innocence Lost Task Force, according to the release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn K. Delaney is prosecuting the case.
