The Marysville Police Department announced the arrest of six people in a recent sting operation targeting people who furnish alcohol to minors.
Marysville police officers and investigators from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control created a joint task force and conducted undercover decoy operations focusing on people who buy alcohol for underage drinkers. Six people were arrested during the operation, which ran for about five hours on Thursday, according to a Police Department news release.
Police said those arrested, cited and released after they were observed furnishing alcohol to a minor decoy were Ryan Edward Trocki, 23, of Yuba City; James B. Johnson Jr., 47, of Marysville; David Robert James, 32 of Marysville; Timothy Warren Penn Jr., 26, of Yuba City; Justin Ernest Chisick, 25, of Lathrop; and Jenny Fay Oneal, 33, of Yuba City.
This was the latest in a series of such operations that began in February.
Furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a person younger than 21 is a misdemeanor, and police said violators face steep fines, possible jail time and community service hours. They said decoys in the sting operations do not try to "trick" adults or use fake identification.
Officials cited the latest data from the California Highway Patrol, which indicates that 105 people under the age of 21 were killed in 2009 and an additional 2,197 were injured while driving with alcohol in their blood.
