The South Lake Tahoe Police Department's traffic unit announced the launch of a new program focused on traffic enforcement in residential neighborhoods.
With warmer weather and children out of school, police anticipate an increase in incidents involving bicyclists and pedestrians, as well as complaints from residents regarding speeding vehicles and stop sign violations.
Under the new enforcement program, traffic officers will be deployed two days a week to a pre-determined neighborhood to provide high-profile, dedicated traffic enforcement, according to a Police Department news release. Areas will be selected based on requests from citizens and traffic collision data. At the end of the week, the statistical data will be released on the number of citations and warnings issued, as well as any arrests that were made.
Residents who would like their street or neighborhood added to the list, may call Sgt. Shannon Laney at (530) 542-6104, or email slaney@cityofslt.us. Callers are asked to provide their name, telephone number and a detailed description of the problem, as well as the times of day that the problem is most prevalent.
The program will begin next week, and the first targeted neighborhood will be announced on Monday.
