A man shot by California Highway Patrol officers after a chase Saturday night in South Sacramento sustained wounds that are believed to be non-life threatening, a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman said Sunday.
Deputy Jason Ramos said the Sheriff's Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
He identified the wounded suspect as Adrian Olivera-Tahua, 27, of Sacramento.
The incident started when a CHP officer saw Olivera-Tahua's vehicle weaving on southbound Highway 99, Ramos said.
When the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver "failed to yield, got off the freeway and tried to make it home," Ramos said.
At about 8 p.m., Olivera-Tahua pulled into a trailer court near Orange Avenue and Stockton Boulevard, where officers confronted him, Ramos said.
He backed his car toward the officers, and two of them opened fire, Ramos said.
Olivera-Tahua, still seated in his truck, was shot in the abdomen, and a bullet grazed his head, Ramos said.
He was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center South Sacramento with wounds that Ramos described as non-life threatening.
CHP Officer Michael Bradley said Sunday that his department was not releasing additional information about the shooting and referred questions to Ramos.
A spokesman for Kaiser did not immediately respond to queries about Olivera-Tahua's condition.
