A driver who police say may have inadvertently stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake crashed into a Woodland business this afternoon.
Officers were sent to 11 Purity Plaza at 12:19 p.m. in response to a silent hold-up alarm at Check Max Plus. When they arrived, police were told that there was no robbery, but an employee had activated the alarm after a car crashed into the building.
The entire glass front of the business and part of the surrounding concrete base were broken when a 1992 Toyota sedan crashed into the front of the building, according to a Woodland Police Department news release.
The driver, a 19-year-old Woodland woman, and her passenger, a 21-year-old man, were shaken, as were the three employees inside the business, police said, but no one was injured.
Although the exact cause of the crash has not been determined, police said, it appeared the driver may have stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake, sending the car over the approximately 4-inch-high curb, across the sidewalk and into the building. Police said the crash is being investigated and the driver has not been cited.
The Woodland Fire Department and city building inspector responded to determine whether the building was safe to occupy. The building will be boarded up until is can be properly repaired, police said.
